Troy Jennings, Aboriginal Liaison Officer for the West Gippsland Healthcare Group was recently awarded Finalist in the 2013 Wurreker Awards, held in Melbourne. These awards are held annually to celebrate the success of the Koori community in Vocational Education and Training.

Troy has worked for WGHG for 12 months and in this time, has implemented numerous new initiatives that increase Aboriginal participation in the organisation. One example being the development of the Baw Baw Aboriginal Health Network that provides the opportunity for organisations that engage with and provide services to the local Aboriginal community, to meet on a regular basis. He identified the need for this network to meet regularly, resulting in improved communication between organisations, a reduction in duplication of local projects, and increased knowledge of events and services within the community. The benefits have seen increased collaboration and support between local organisations.
