Drouin Secondary College Year 8 students who are undertaking the 'Hands on Learning' program have grown a flourishing crop of vegetables throughout winter.

The students and their teacher Bernie Walsh have been busy relocating garden beds and bringing in metres of soil by wheelbarrow. Planted crops include kale, broccoli, spring onions, and several varieties of lettuce.

The students wish to donate the produce to Baw Baw Combined Churches Food Relief and plan to sell vegetables to staff and families to support the Royal Children's Hospital. The students have learnt some valuable gardening skills and how to grow healthy foods.

Drouin Secondary College partnered with West Gippsland Healthcare Group to facilitate the implementation of the Victorian Governments Achievement Program.

The Achievement Program is a simple evidence based framework for continuous improvement in the area of health and wellbeing. For information about how schools can participate in the Achievement Program, please contact the West Gippsland Healthcare Groups Promotion team on 5624 3500.
