New sofa beds purchased with funds raised at Spring Ball

Children and their parents who need to stay in the Peadiatric Ward at Central Gippsland Health Service are sleeping a little easier, thanks to public support provided through the 2011 Spring Ball.

The funds raised at the Ball have been utilized to purchase a number of sofa beds and televisions for the Women’s and Children’s unit.

The foldout beds can be used as chairs and then open out to form a single bed.  The beds give the parents the opportunity to stay with their children and the children gain comfort in the knowledge that their parents can stay with them.

Moira Tulloch, Nurse Unit Manager in the Women’s and Children’s Unit, said those who supported the Spring Ball either by attending or donating goods deserved a big vote of thanks.

“The efforts of all of those people have resulted in this purchase, which has been most welcomed by local families,” she said.

“The main focus for the funds is to provide more comfort for the families while their young children have a sometimes lengthy hospital stay. The sofa beds are already in good use.”

A capacity crowd of nearly 400 people turned out for the Spring Ball, which raised more than $13,000.00. As well as eight sofa beds, two televisions were also purchased for use in the Women’s and Children’s Ward.
