Wilson Lodge in Sale now has two bariatric beds, thanks to the proceeds from 2014 CGHS Bicycle Relay.
The relay committee donated $7500 to the local aged care facility and a similar amount to Maffra Hospital for the purchase of new equipment.
This year’s relay will be held on Saturday and Sunday, November 14 and 15 with entrants again riding from Sale to Lake Tyers and return.
Organiser Shirley Mowat said interested people were invited to form a team and participate in the event. It starts in Sale at 8am on Saturday, travelling to Lake Tyers for an overnight stay and returning on Sunday. It is a total distance of approximately 350 km is on bitumen roads.
“Teams may consist of any number of riders and must have a support vehicle to transport team members between riding stints,” Ms Mowat said. “It’s not a race, but a reasonable degree of fitness is recommended. In most teams, riders would ride from 10 or 15-20km legs at a time. “
The cost of the ride is $90 per rider (or $55 per student) which covers registration, evening meal, breakfast and a souvenir of the event. Team riders are encouraged to obtain sponsorship for their participation in the ride.
Accommodation is booked at Lake Tyers Camp and Caravan Park with riders encouraged to stay at the camp site where accommodation is bunk style in cabins. Costs for the accommodation are $30 per bed in cabins and $14 per head for tent sites.
Ms Mowat urged people to register your team early to guarantee cabin accommodation. “Once cabin accommodation is full, teams will need to arrange their own accommodation,” she said.
Registration and sponsorship forms will be available in the next week with closing time for entries on October 30.
